Loerie Letter January 2018

Celebrating 10th Year of IEB Matric Students

Dear KMS Family

I trust everyone had an enjoyable holiday and is raring to go for 2018! Welcome back to school, and I hope that the New Year brings us peace, health, happiness and an end to the drought in the Western Cape.
Please join me in extending a very warm welcome to Liezel Brazier, our new office administrator and Friday Market co-ordinator, and Angeline Kruger who is with us for the first term while Marne is on maternity leave.
Congratulations to Marne and her husband Hennie on the birth of their healthy baby boy, Daniel.
Congratulations to the Hersch Family on the birth of baby Ivy.

At the end of 2017 parents, students and staff took part in the annual survey. Thank you to everyone who participated in this. The survey helps us to identify areas of strength as well as areas that need improvement or focus.

This term we will be concentrating on 2 areas:

— Safety of children arriving at school and leaving from school

A member of staff will be on duty at the front office door between 14:00 and 14:30. The staff member is to ensure that all Junior School and Preschool children are leaving with their parents or guardians. A reminder please to inform the office if you have made arrangements with someone else to collect your child from school. It is not the responsibility of the teachers to know which play date has been arranged and with whom. This information MUST come to the office so that we know who is responsible for collecting your child.

If your child is walking or cycling home – please send a letter to the office confirming permission for this.

The staff member on duty will also ensure that the front entrance is clear and that the Middle and High School children are not blocking the entrance.

You will note that we have put up signs for your attention to please use the walkways when dropping and collecting your children from school. Some larger vehicles can’t see little children walking behind the vehicles.
The office closes at 4pm therefore any Middle and High School children not collected by 4pm will be asked to go to hostel so that we can ensure the children have been collected safely by their parent/guardian. A register will be kept and aftercare rates will apply

— Communication

We have implemented the D6 School Communicator. Details about downloading the APP have been sent out. Please attend the Parent Information Evenings this week for further information. All school information will be available on the D6 App.

School WhatsApp groups will cease – no teachers will be on WhatsApp groups from next week. If the parents in the phase wish to set up a social WhatsApp group, then that is by choice and the class representative needs to manage the group. Only teachers who are parents too may be on this group.  We will be having a class representative meeting once all class reps have been appointed: TUESDAY 30th January at 14:15.
The school calendar and sport and club calendar will be posted on the D6 communicator.

I look forward to us all working together to ensure that the above two areas are streamlined and effective. Please do not hesitate to let us know if we can assist further in this regard.

Junior Athletics Day will be on Friday 26th. Children are to go to their classes as normal and the event will start at 8:30am and be finished at approximately 12 noon. Children may go home with their parents or they may stay at school until the end of the school day. Please note – if you are taking your child home after the event please inform the class teacher.

Please join us for the Family Social on Friday 26th from 4pm. There will be a KMS table for all parents and staff – please come and support our market for meals and refreshments. This is a good time for all parents and in particular, new parents to meet and chat.

I wish everyone a very happy term as we nurture, guide and facilitate your children, inspiring them to learn and fostering in them a love of learning and helping them to quench their thirst for knowledge.

Kind regards
