Dear KMS Family

Welcome back to the third term.

The Taiwanese students and their teacher, Nancy joined us for the first week of term. Although it was a fleeting visit, we really enjoyed having them with us and trust they enjoyed their time with us. We hope they enjoy the rest of their time in South Africa.

We welcome Jim Schampera and Ben Hoffman who recently arrived from Germany.  Jim will be with us for 2 terms and Ben for a year. We hope you enjoy your time with us at Knysna Montessori School and hostel.

There are a few changes to staff. Bev and Matt Brownson will be returning to the United States on the 27th July. Last week preschool parents received Bev’s letter about the opportunity which she has been offered in the US. We know she was very happy with us at KMS and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Bev as Head of Preschool for all her valuable input and dedication to the children, staff and parents of the preschool. You will be missed! As hostel parents Bev and Matt will also be missed and we thank Matt for his hard work and input in maintenance of the school. We wish you well in your future endeavours.

Joy Diedericks will be the new Head of Preschool. She is a 3-6 Montessori teacher and has lots of experience with this age group. She is currently teaching in the 9-12 environment but will take up the position on 30th July in the preschool.  As a transitional period, Joy will still keep her hand in the 9-12 class from 11am -12am Tuesday -Friday for Afrikaans and Art. She will also continue doing the early morning greeting with the Junior School at 07:15. When the pre-schoolers go out onto the playground and have lunch time (11am-12am) Barbara Anne will join the other staff members on playground duty.

Joy will be spending the day in the Preschool on Tuesday 24th July. You are invited to come and meet with her at the beginning of the day or at 2pm. I am advertising for a Junior School Art and Afrikaans teacher to fill the Junior School post. When a suitable candidate has been found the transitional period will end and Joy will be permanently in the Pre School.

I am also advertising for the position of Hostel Parents and will keep you informed. Action plans are being put in place until suitable candidates are found.

John Vahey is not returning to the school this year. We welcome Sue Waugh and Pieter Vieyra as temporary Geography and Maths Literacy teachers respectively. We are advertising the posts of Geography and Maths Literacy for next year.

The school calendar for the term is on the d6. Please check it regularly as occasionally a date may be changed due to unforeseen circumstances.

I wish you a very happy term.

Best wishes
