Loerie Letter October 2018

Dear KMS Family

Welcome back to the fourth term. I hope everyone had a very enjoyable holiday. Please join me in welcoming Ellie Olivier to the Toddler Class and Bradley Olivier and Faith Chauncey to the 3-6 environment.

Thank you to the parents who attended the AGM at the end of last term. As announced at the AGM it is with great excitement that the Trust has approved renovations and modernization to the third Middle School Classroom which has now taken place during the holidays, and we have a wonderful space for Creative Art and Classroom space for these students. A new toilet facility is also in place for this area and for use at the swimming pool area.

Furthermore, exciting improvements, renovations and modernization to the lower deck and upper deck will be commencing on the 30th November 2018. From 2019 the 6-9 and 9-12 environments will be located on the lower deck and the 15-18 environment will be located on the upper deck. There is a great deal of organization and preparation required to ensure that the builders are able to commence on the 30th.

The Middle School and Preschool will not be unduly affected by the renovations, however we will be holding the Closing Ceremony for the term for the whole school on the morning of the 30th November as formal teaching will be completed by this date.

PLEASE NOTE: School will close at 11am on Friday 30th November to allow staff to further prepare for the building preparations. Hostel students may make travel arrangements from the morning of  Friday 30th November.

Due to the building and renovations a care facility for Junior School and High School children will be offered to parents who have work commitments from the 3rd – 6th December. The Junior School and High School children will be accommodated in another classroom away from the building site. Kindly let the office know if you will be making use of this facility by Monday 26th November so final arrangements and preparations can be made. Your understanding in this matter is greatly appreciated.

The Middle School and Preschool environments will continue in their normal classrooms. Both these environments have outings during the week 3-6th December.

Lee-Helen, the 6-9 directress, is relocating to Cape Town for family and personal circumstances. Her last day will be 25th October. She will be dearly missed and we thank her for her valuable contribution to the 6-9 team and environment. We wish her and her family all the very best as they make a new life for themselves in Cape Town. I am currently advertising for a 6-9 directress, should I not be able to appoint someone to join us in the 4th term, then I will be stepping into the 6-9 class until the end of November.

Our Matric students will be focused on their exams this term and we wish them all the very best.

A new security pad has been installed on the Aftercare Gate leading into the school. The office will inform parents, of registered aftercare students, of the code. Only parents/guardians/teachers are to have this code – please do not share with children/friends or third parties.

Please see the term calendar for information regarding the terms activities and events.
